Automatons & Secret Rhythms

Julian Stein, Max Stein, & Nimalan Yoganathan

Automatons & Secret Rhythms is a kinetic sound installation work for a 12-piece solenoid orchestra. The percussive motors are coupled with various found objects and driven according to rhythms of urban field recordings gathered by the trio  (Stein, Stein, Yoganathan). The work brings attention to and accentuates the rhythms of the urban environment.

The work was a collaboration with Maxwell Stein and Nimalan Yoganathan at OBORO as recipients of OBORO's 2009 New Media Creation Grant for Young Artists.
